Evelyn performed
for eight years with International Sweethearts of Rhythm and later married
the group's musical director, the legendary Jazz, R&B, and Rock &
Roll pioneer, Jesse A. Stone. Jesse Stone penned such classics as "Shake,
Rattle and Roll" and "Good Golly Miss Molly", writing under
the name of Charles "Chuck" Calhoun. Evelyn performs many of
Jesse's songs on her CDs.
The International
Sweethearts of Rhythm was formed in 1939 at the Piney Wooks Country Life
School (Mississippi), and made it's debut at the Howard Theater in Washington,
D.C.
At the
Howard Theater in Washington, D.C., the band set a new box office record
of 35,000 patrons in one week of 1941.
