The Renee Project is based on the tough true story of Renee Yohe, who struggled with drug addiction, depression and self-harm (aka "cutting") and who inspired the creation of the charity group called To Write Love On Her Arms. The movie stars Kat Dennings (Thor, Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist) as Renee Yohe, Chad Michael Murray as TWLOHA founder Jamie Tworkowski and Rupert Friend (The Young Victoria) as David McKenna. The cast will also include Juliana Harkavy (Whatever Lola Wants), Mark Saul, and Corbin Bleu (High School Musical).
“The Renee Project” is produced by Cameron “Kim” Dawson, David Blair McKenna, and David Nixon with Executive Producers Tom Swanson and Jayson Stringfellow. The Producers got a bit of Florida Film Incentive money for "The Renee Project". Producer, sometime director and second unit director and ex-state film commissioner Paul Sirmons is on board. And they’re working with Valencia College’s film program and Full Sail University, which will provide some gear and student on-the-job trainings/sweat equity in the production, which should help keep production costs down.
